The Evolution of Golf Apparel: Golf was first played in Scotland and it is no surprise that the first golf apparel used were kilts and animal skins. Due to its popularity it spread to other countries, the golf apparel started evolving and became more in tune with the times. Golf has been considered to be a gentleman’s game and as such gentlemanly wear was used.
By the 1950’s the jackets slowly went out of fashion and in came v-necked sweaters and bow ties. The v-necked sweaters are still used in the sport but the bow tie has gone. In the 1970’s polo shirts and shorts were used by golfers. Today, leading companies are coming out with branded golf apparel for men and women. This includes golf shirts and t-shirts, golf hats, shoes, gloves, trousers and shorts. The golfer shoes have metal or plastic spikes at the bottom which gives them a better grip on the course. The golf equipment also plays a major role in this sport. The golf equipment includes golf bags, golf clubs, gold tees and golf balls. There are certain rules with regard to equipment that can be carried by golfers. For example, a maximum of 14 clubs can be carried at one time in the golf bag.
